Special Meeting of the Shetek Area Water and Sewer Commission

March 18, 2010     7:00PM

The meeting was scheduled to allow the SAWS commission to be present at the Zoning Commission hearing.

Members Present:  Ted Haugen, Jamie Thomazin, Donna Kor, Jon Hoyme.

Members Absent:  Dean Salmon, Jon Harback, Dave Marks, Tim Alcorn.

Staff/ Advisors:  Dave Brown

The SAWS request was to extent vent pipes for lift station #1 and #2 several hundred feet from the lift stations.

Information was shared on the changes at station #3 and on remaining work, i.e. fan, cover seal, grading, and landscaping. This will be completed as soon as possible.

Info was shared on down piping installed at all four stations. PCA and engineer said testing is being done to compare the impact of these pipes.

Info was shared on water quality and the effect the resulting hydrogen sulfide has on odor.

After public comments, the 8 findings were voted on and finally a vote to recommend the request to the county commissioners with several attached conditions was approved with one dissenting vote.
#1  Completion of sealing and fan installation on station 3
#2  At # 2 vent no closer than 700’ to cemetery.
#3  A progress report to board at May 20th meeting.

During a brief follow up conversation after the zoning meeting the commission agreed to wait until the April 6th Commissioners meeting and hopeful approval to begin the projects with the exception of the already approved #3 improvements.

The next meeting was set for April 15th at4:00 PM
