Skandia Township History

Organized January 27, 1873

Skandia Township is located in the west upper tier of Murray County. Lyon County borders on the north, Lake Sarah Township on the east, Lowville Township on the south, and Ellsborough Township on the west.   People from Norway and Sweden settled in the north central part of the county in this township, around Iron Lake.  Skandia was named after the ancient name of southern Sweden.

The first Swedish church, Sillerud Lutheran Church, is located northeast of Current Lake.
