Full Time Assessor
Murray County is taking applications for full-time Assessor. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This is a full-time position working in our office in Slayton, MN.  We offer exceptional benefits including medical insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, generous paid leave, public employee pension plan, and more.

This position works to provide a fair and equitable assessment of all real and personal property in the County and serve as a representative for the Assessor’s office. In this position you’ll perform valuation and classification of property for tax assessment purposes to include, performing field inspections, maintaining accurate information in a mass appraisal system, analyzing real estate sales, applying accurate methods to the valuation process, responding to taxpayer’s concerns, resolving formal and informal appeals, and testifying at local and county boards of review.

Job title and salary range depend on experience and level of Minnesota Assessor licensure. Advanced certification or experience in assessing will have priority consideration.

Assessing Technician (Entry Level) $19.90 - $25.87
Deputy Assessor (CMA license) $25.12 - $32.66
Deputy Assessor (AMA license) $26.63 - $34.62
Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School diploma/GED and two years relevant work experience.
  • Valid MN driver’s license.
  • Must have excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Mathematical skills and ability to read legal descriptions required. 

This is a progressive position, and incumbent is expected to obtain the Certified Minnesota Assessor (CMA) licensure within two years of hire. Deputy Assessor CMA must obtain and maintain an AMA license, within two years of obtaining CMA license, along with continuing education credits and stay abreast of changes in appraisal methods, regulations, and formulas, building costs, market values and similar developments.

Seasonal Museum Assistant - End-O-Line Railroad Park
Murray County is accepting applications for seasonal Museum Assistants. Weekly work hours will vary with an average of up to 35 hours per week. Work on weekends and holidays will be required.

Duties include:
  • Conduct educational guided tours to the visitors about End-O-Line Park and Murray County's history.
  • Assist with events at the museums.
  • Assist with gift shop sales and inventory, use of cash register and credit card machine.
  • Maintain the upkeep of the park buildings, grounds, restrooms.

Qualifications: Requires the ability to learn and relay history information on tourist attractions in the area. Must have good interpersonal skills and the ability to speak publicly to all age groups.  Basic mathematical skills necessary. Must be able to work on weekends and holidays as required. Valid MN driver’s license required.

Duties include:

  • Grounds Maintenance including mowing, trimming grass, trees and performing yard work.
  • Assist in events, cleaning and maintaining Fairgrounds.
  • Performs general maintenance on small equipment including mowers and weed eaters.
  • Inspects and cleans all shelters, toilets, trash containers, picnic tables, grills and other equipment and structures in the County Park system.
Minimum Qualifications:

End-O-Line Railroad Park & Museum Supervisor
Murray County is taking applications for a part-time, End-O-Line Supervisor. This position is benefit eligible, 30 hours per week November through April and 35 hours per week May through October.

The End-O-Line Supervisor works under the supervision of the Museum Director and is responsible for overseeing the End-O-Line Railroad Park and Museum. The purpose of this position is to assist the Museum Director in the everyday work at the End-O-Line. During the End-O-Line off season, this position will assist at the Museum and Dinehart Holt House.

  • Basic maintenance and repair skills, or the ability to identify issues and address them properly.
  • Ability to learn the history of Murray County, Minnesota history, and area tourist attractions and amenities.
  • Be skilled in public speaking including the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma/GED and one year work experience in a similar institution.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

Salary Range: $16.71 - $21.72 per hour

Full Time Deputy Sheriff
Murray County is taking applications for a full-time Deputy Sheriff. Hours are a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.                               

The purpose of this position is to protect life and property in Murray County and to enforce City Ordinances, County, State and Federal Laws. Duties include but are not limited to investigating criminal activity; interviewing victims, interrogating suspects; writing reports; responding to accidents; civil process; prisoner transport; evidence collection; serving warrants; executing of court orders; responding to law enforcement related calls and assist the County Sheriff.

Qualifications: Minimum of a High School diploma/GED and two-year degree in law enforcement or related field.
Requirements:

  • Must be licensed by the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board and attend at least 48 hours continuing education every three years;
  • Valid MN Driver’s License;
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations;
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to use leadership skills, to verbalize orders/commands so that the public and staff understand exactly what is being said and expected;
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals;
  • Must have received Bureau of Criminal Apprehension CJIS certification within one year of date of hire.

Salary Range: $26.87-$34.93 per hour
