Recycling Center Worker Part-time

Murray County is taking applications for a Part-time Recycling Center Worker. Days worked will be Monday – Friday, up to 29 hours per week.

Position open until filled, first review of applications will be October 13, 2021.

This position is responsible for receiving and sorting recyclable materials into a homogenous, marketable product, via the use of platform scale, sorting table and baler. This position requires working in a timely matter and dealing with independent situations to keep up with the constant delivery of commingled recyclable material.

Duties include:

  • Sorting commingled recyclable material into homogenous bulk shipments.
  • Operate and maneuver forklift to unload trailers, move recyclable materials within the building and load trucks.
  • Bale material in accordance with shipping requirement.
  • Carry out regular preventive maintenance of forklift and equipment.
  • Record weights from a platform scale.
  • Complete necessary janitorial services to keep the facility clean and orderly.

Qualifications: H.S. Diploma/GED and a valid Driver’s License are required. Ability to obtain a forklift certificate within three months.

Highway Maintenance Worker

Murray County is taking applications for a full-time Highway Maintenance Worker. Hours are typically Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except when assigned to the 4-day, 10-hour work schedule (normally May-October) but may vary depending on department needs.

Position open until filled, first review of applications will be October 5, 2021.  

This position is responsible for the operation of heavy motorized equipment, including graders, dozers, front-end loaders and various other equipment used for the maintenance of county roads, bridges and right of ways. This position is responsible for keeping roadways in safe driving conditions and responding to emergency events such as natural disasters.

Qualifications: Minimum of a High School diploma/GED and 4 years of experience driving heavy equipment that includes tandem gravel trucks and/or operate a motor grader. Must possess and maintain a Class A CDL and a healthy driving record. Must have a 30-minute response time from home to work.

Requirements: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, while able to perform intermediate troubleshooting or analysis of problems; Ability to communicate effectively to work team, with occasional incidental public interaction; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; This position is subject to random drug and alcohol testing as required for a class A Commercial Driver’s license; Ability to respond to emergency events that include severe weather, storms, flooding and blocked roads; Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations; Ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with others.

Deputy Sheriff
Murray County is taking applications for a full-time Deputy Sheriff.  Hours are a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Lead Mechanic
Murray County is taking applications for a full-time Lead Mechanic. Hours are typically Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. except when assigned to the 4-day, 10-hour work schedule (normally May-October) but may vary depending on department needs.

Qualifications: Minimum of a High School diploma/GED and an associate degree in heavy equipment, diesel engines or truck maintenance and 4 years of experience or a combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a Class A CDL with air brakes and tanker endorsement and maintain a healthy driving record. Must have a 30-minute response time from home to work.

Requirements: Must be able to obtain the following certifications within 1 year of employment: Minnesota commercial vehicle inspection certification, forklift certification and crane certification; Must be able to work with others in a team environment and to communicate effectively with law enforcement personnel, members of the public, and officials or employees from other organizations and departments; Ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment and make non-routine decisions within established precedents considering Department objectives; Must demonstrate working knowledge of Microsoft Office; Must be proficient in diagnosis and repair of air and hydraulic brake systems and air conditioning systems; Performs advance troubleshooting with judgement and a complex set of known alternatives; Confer with Maintenance Supervisor and County Engineer before making large or expensive repairs to maintenance equipment; Complete annual training of OSHA/MSHA training, Fire Extinguisher and Right to Know, Lock Out and Tag Out.

Part-time Dispatcher/Jailer

Murray County is taking applications for a regular part time Dispatcher/Jailer. Variety of rotating shifts including nights, weekends and holidays.

This purpose of this position is to answer 911 calls and dispatch responding units (Law, Fire, EMS and First Responders) with accurate and timely information via the paging system and ARMER radio. This position exercises independent judgement in transmitting law enforcement information and responding to inquiries, complaints, and requests for emergency and non-emergency calls for service. This position assumes responsibility of prisoners brought into Murray County holding cell and record all actions taken by prisoner and arresting order.

Qualifications:
Minimum of a High School diploma/GED and valid Minnesota Driver’s License.

Requirements: Ability to analyze emergency calls and respond to the call calmly, quickly and accurately; Ability to use a dispatch radio to communicate effectively presenting information clearly and accurately; Ability to read, write and speak English and ability to listen to and follow instructions; Ability to ask specific questions to get results; Must be able to make decisions quickly and meet deadlines.
